Hello, </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Learn something by our own is a very difficult process but in the end a very gratifying one. Most of the times people don’t finish their “work” when they don’t have an instructor by their side and worse they quit easily if some difficult task gets in the way. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To begin with many things, bass guitar included, the collection “For dummies” is a very nice one. You may think that it is a childish collection and not an “in deep” exploration of bass guitar, but why do we want to buy a complete book about bass guitar if we are going to stop in the first thing we don’t understand? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">The first video lesson that I'm posting is a very famous lesson from a bassist already posted here in Gbass-space. It's a lesson from Flea where he explains all the basics of the instrument and a few simple exercises to gain strength and accuracy in your playing style. My advice is, don't neglect this type of exercises, they might seem very simple and boring but they are essential.</div><br />

<br />
What is your first impression regarding Les Claypool and his friends from Primus? Well, mine is not that good. All the crazy videos and shows don't help us building a good impression about them. However, when it comes to family we reveal ourselves and the good things start to popup. Les Claypool's nephew has leukemia (A rare kind of leukemia) and to help him Les and his friends are doing what they can to help him and his parents. This type of cancer requires very expensive treatments. To gather the money needed for the treatments for his nephew Les Claypool sold his Pachyderm Bass. He sold his beauty for $50.599.55. Take a look.<br />

Well, work is not that bad when you do what you like and when you have free time to breakfast and lunch. This seems not important to you, but I actually do not spend this time eating. For example, yesterday I found Aram Bedrosian in the internet. I am absolutely astonished with this guy. He is a “One man band” with only an electric bass. He composes and plays very well. Actually I’m not afraid of saying that he is a virtuoso in bass technique and composing. Recently he published his debut album entitled “Aram Bedrosian”. I bought it yesterday and I’m currently listening to it. I will tell you my thoughts about it as soon as I had listened <span id="goog_441507867"></span><span id="goog_441507868"></span>to it a few times.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">In the meantime, stay with the album cover and with the track list<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>of Aram Bedrosian first album. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">So did you liked the last featured video? I hope so. I really enjoy Larry Graham and that's why I'm making a proper post about him. He was born in 1946 and became a legend in the world of bass. Why? Simple, inventor of the slap and pop technique that we all already saw in the previous posts that I did. We can see this technique in Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke and Flea. I'm just enumerating the ones I wrote about but you can find very easily bassists that master the slap and pop technique.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">And this all begun with a negligent act from one member of his bad. One day, they had no drummer in the studio and Larry came out with this awesome technique trying to make a drum sound out of the bass... He reinvented all the funk music until it became what we know today. And for that we are very pleased and owe this guy all the appraise we can muster.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Stay with this awesome lesson from Larry Graham.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

One more time we see an awesome bassist starting his carrer in a completely different instrument than bass. Anthony Jackson started in piano, then guitar and ended in bass guitar. In the end he made the obvious choice, don't you think?</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Anthony had the great James Jamerson as influence. This is one of the few times that we do not see the name "Pastorius" next to "influence". For me Anthony is one of Jaco's influences and not the other way around. Anthony won his space in the bass world in the Jazz, Fusion and Funk styles. Jackson is well know for is six string bass and the riffs and the powerful walking bass lines that he makes with it. Just listen to his great discography and find it for yourself. Check his <a href="http://www.facebook.com/ajbass" target="_blank">Facebook website</a> to know more about this talented bassist.</div><br />
In the meantime stay with this great video. He's amazing and with this other musicians...<br />

Sid Vicious. For those who don´t know him, he was the bassist of the famous punk rock band Sex Pistols. In terms of skill and music ability Sid was pretty bad even Lenny from the band Motorhead said “he still couldn´t play bass when he died”. You may ask why have him in the band? Simple, charisma, he was without doubt charismatic and he somehow personified the punk spirit which made him extremely popular.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sid Vicious</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Sid had many demons and one of those demons was heroin. He met his end on February 2 1979 by overdose. Still some claim that he killed himself thanks to a suicide note that was found in one of his jackets.<br />
Rest in Peace Sid Vicious 10 May 1957 – 2 February 1979<br />

P.S. - Yes, I'm not writing this post. It's a friend of mine, that really likes music but not for the same reasons that I do. He tried to show me a good example of what is music for him - "Charisma". With all the respect, that's a very poor Pop Culture (I'm sorry True Pop Culture lovers). <div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">As promised, the posts to come will be about the bassists that play in the last album form Mike Stern. Last week was intense in terms of music. This album just overwhelms anyone that simply likes good musics. Cameroon and Light and good examples of such ones. This musics are played by Richard Bona.</div><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>

</tbody></table><div style="text-align: justify;">Richard Bona born in October 28, 1967, in Cameroon. He is a jazz bass player. His roots are well expressed in his music. Listening to his solo albums and collaborations we can easily listen to some African musicality. Reggae is another type of music that you can find in his marvelous bass riffs.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">His first solo album is <i>Scenes from my life </i>and it was released in 1999. It's a relatively recent discography but is a very good one. Regarding his collaboration CD's we can only say "This guy is good!". He is... very good. He worked and keeps working with some of the most respected jazz musicians. Victor Wooten, Mike Stern, Bobby McFerrin are some examples.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

Listening to it is a marvelous journey that ends in the agreement with all my colleagues; this is a 5 stars album that you must hear. Surfing the net you can find some really good reviews about the wonders of this album. Since it's not the theme of this blog i wont review the album but i will review and talk a little about the bassists that play it. I will link you to some of the reviews that i think that are good. To be honest, I really don´t think I'm able to review a CD of this quality!</div><div><br />

</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Check the cover and the track list, and pay attention to the names of the songs. Now, let’s focus in the bass part of this album and in the bass players that perform each music.The first music is AJ. The name of this song is the initial letter of Anthony Jackson, the bass player that Stern invited to perform this music with him. He also plays the last music All Over The Place. Next one is performed by a Cameroon born bassist. He is Richard Bona, and plays beautiful bass lines. Personally, it's one of my favorite bassists in this album. His reggae musicality it's just amazing. One of the goods things of jazz is that you can "put" almost any other type of music "in" it. He plays in Cameroon and in Light. Light is one of my favorite musics. Simple grooves, complex results. Tom Kennedy plays Out Of The Blue. A beautiful music with a beautiful acoustic piano. Next bassist is Esperanza Spalding in the upright bass. She plays As Far As We Know, a very deep and dramatic song. The 3 songs that come next are all played by Dave Holland and Will Lee. They are Blues For Al, OCD and You Never Told Me. Next it´s my favorite music. It´s played by Victor Wooten and he does, as always, a godlike job. The riffs, the solo, and the riffs again. Everything is amazing. Finaly comes Flipside a music played by Victor Bailey. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">In the end, we have here a very good album that anyone that likes jazz should buy. I will make a specific post for each bassist that we talked here today.</div></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

<div><br />
</div><div>Another best bass song for you. Today featuring Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers. The song is Soul to Squeeze and it's one of my favorites from them. Very simple with a very pleasant bass line.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/0XcN12uVHeQ?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div>As I said, the featured bassist is Flea. Born in 1962 he is already considered a master of bass guitar. He started playing trumpet and according to many sites and magazines he was quite good at it. In the end, as many other bassists, he found that the bass guitar was the best instrument for him. Present in numerous charts and polls made by the most respected music institutions, today he is a very respected bass player. </div><div><br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Mike Stern is releasing a new album. You probably are wondering why I am posting about a jazz guitarist. It's simple, this album has eight different bassists playing it. Mike invited some of the best bassists that we all know and made a album with their precious collaboration. It features bassists like Victor Wooten, Victor Bailey and Dave Holland so we can only expect goods things coming from this album. The sad thing is, we still have to wait. All Over the Place will be released in June 19 and this time I don't find any pre-sale in Ebay or Amazon. Expect my personal review as soon i can hear it decently.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

<div><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Thanks to the wonders of Ebay I managed to get Renaissance album before it is released here in Europe. If you are thinking in doing the same thing just go ahead and buy it from there, totally a trustworthy seller. Marcus Miller last studio album (<i>Free</i>) was released five years ago in 2007. Personally I had no idea of what to expect from this new one but I have to say that it totally exceeded my expectations. Let's finish the trash talk and get to the important thing.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Get a look at the cover and the track list. In this album Marcus Miller plays bass, fretless bass, bass clarinet and acoustic bass. With the collaboration of his band and other artists he managed to make a wonderful album that you must hear.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

<br />
<br />
Listening to Renaissance for the first time you feel all the jazzy power that comes from Marcus. We start with some funky jazz grooves in Detroit, Redemption, February ans Sleeping into Darkness. Then we get some rocky jazz in Jekell & Hyde, Interlude - Nocturnal Mist and Revelation. At last we get some sentimental musics, Goreé (Go Ray) and I'll Be There. Putting labels in all this songs can be a bit exaggerated but i think this album shows all the versatility that Marcus has in his composition capabilities.<br />
Now lets talk of specific musics. My favorite it's without any doubt Revelation. Marcus Miller does an excellent performance playing the bass clarinet followed by some very good distortion guitar solos. There's no doubt that this music has it all. Talking about distortion I have to mention Jekell & Hyde where there's a distortion bass in the end. That's not very common in Marcus but I have to say that it sounds very good. Another music that i want to talk about it's Mr. Clean. At some point we hear a very funky bass groove that just remembers me of the beginnings of Stanley Clarke in "We Suplly". Another influence is Jaco Pastorious. Tell me, do you "hear" him in Revelation and Goreé? At last the album ends with I'll be There, a very good solo bass music.<br />
In conclusion, I think that Marcus went to his origins where he were extremely influenced by Jaco Pastorious and Stanley Clarke, as every bassist of that time. This time we can't blame him, he did it very well and included his own style perfectly in every music. Well done Marcus!<br />
<br />
Pay attention to the podcast at the top right side of this blog, you wont regret it.<br />

No problem they probably are the best indeed... they all are... they are bassists!). I see Victor as a very humble person that does what he loves and makes money with it. I'm not saying he wants money, just saying that if people make profit with what they love, they achieved a important goal in life. Back to what really matters, Victor born in 1964 and started playing at the age of two. I ask myself, could i walk when i was two? Probably yes, but i certainly fell a few times at this age. Well Victor already played at this age and started performing at the age of six. Well i wont keep embarrassing us all... Visit his <a href="http://www.victorwooten.com/index.html" target="_blank">website</a> and his <a href="http://www.myspace.com/victorwooten" target="_blank">myspace</a> and listen to a few songs of this music genius.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
