Musica Nuda - Bass/Vocals duet

Hello followers!

In the last week I heard some really good music that I want you to hear. Additionally I would like some thoughts regarding the beauty of the bass and vocals duet. In this post I show you Musica Nuda – Guarda Che Luna. Musica Nuda is a duet founded by Petra Magoni (Vocals) and Ferruccio Spinetti (Double Bass). They have two albums that I strongly recommend you to hear. Check their website for more details.

Expect more Bass/vocals duets in the posts to come.

Stay tuned,

A useful book for you

Hello,

Learn something by our own is a very difficult process but in the end a very gratifying one. Most of the times people don’t finish their “work” when they don’t have an instructor by their side and worse they quit easily if some difficult task gets in the way.
To begin with many things, bass guitar included, the collection “For dummies” is a very nice one. You may think that it is a childish collection and not an “in deep” exploration of bass guitar, but why do we want to buy a complete book about bass guitar if we are going to stop in the first thing we don’t understand?

In the end, if you want to learn the basics, and laugh a bit while you learn something new, do not forget that you are a dummy and this book may help you. I am a dummy and it helped.

If you want to buy this book: Amazon

Video Bass Lesson - Flea

Hi,

The first video lesson that I'm posting is a very famous lesson from a bassist already posted here in Gbass-space.  It's a lesson from Flea where he explains all the basics of the instrument and a few simple exercises to gain strength and accuracy in your playing style. My advice is, don't neglect this type of exercises, they might seem very simple and boring but they are essential.

Les Claypool's bass!

Hi,

What is your first impression regarding Les Claypool and his friends from Primus? Well, mine is not that good. All the crazy videos and shows don't help us building a good impression about them. However, when it comes to family we  reveal ourselves and the good things start to popup.  Les Claypool's nephew has leukemia (A rare kind of leukemia) and to help him Les and his friends are doing what they can to help him and his parents. This type of cancer requires very expensive treatments. To gather the money needed for the treatments for his nephew Les Claypool sold his Pachyderm Bass. He sold his beauty for $50.599.55. Take a look.

If I had the money i would not think twice. Although we all can help this child with a lot less money but with the same or even better intentions.
Visit this site and make your good action of the day: http://www.babymatthew.org/

In the meantime don't miss the chance to see Les Claypool live in concert at October 4 and 5. Check  more information about this here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Les-Claypool/10915944530

Aram Bedrosian

Hello!

Aram Bedrosian
Aram Bredosian
Back from holidays, back to work... Well, work is not that bad when you do what you like and when you have free time to breakfast and lunch. This seems not important to you, but I actually do not spend this time eating. For example, yesterday I found Aram Bedrosian in the internet. I am absolutely astonished with this guy. He is a “One man band” with only an electric bass. He composes and plays very well. Actually I’m not afraid of saying that he is a virtuoso in bass technique and composing. Recently he published his debut album entitled “Aram Bedrosian”. I bought it yesterday and I’m currently listening to it. I will tell you my thoughts about it as soon as I had listened to it a few times.
In the meantime, stay with the album cover and with the track list  of Aram Bedrosian first album.

Larry Graham

Hi,

Larry Graham
Larry Graham

So did you liked the last featured video? I hope so. I really enjoy Larry Graham and that's why I'm making a proper post about him. He was born in 1946 and became a legend in the world of bass. Why? Simple, inventor of the slap and pop technique that we all already saw in the previous posts that I did. We can see this technique in Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke and Flea. I'm just enumerating the ones I wrote about but you can find very easily bassists that master the slap and pop technique.

And this all begun with a negligent act from one member of his bad. One day, they had no drummer in the studio and Larry came out with this awesome technique trying to make a drum sound out of the bass... He reinvented all the funk music until it became what we know today. And for that we are very pleased and owe this guy all the appraise we can muster.
Stay with this awesome lesson from Larry Graham.

Anthony Jackson

Hi,

This time one of my favorite bassists. One more time we see an awesome bassist starting his carrer in a completely different instrument than bass. Anthony Jackson started in piano, then guitar and ended in bass guitar. In the end he made the obvious choice, don't you think?
Anthony had the great James Jamerson as influence. This is one of the few times that we do not see the name "Pastorius" next to "influence". For me Anthony is one of Jaco's influences and not the other way around. Anthony won his space in the bass world in the Jazz, Fusion and Funk styles. Jackson is well know for is six string bass and the riffs and the powerful walking bass lines that he makes with it. Just listen to his great discography and find it for yourself. Check his Facebook website to know more about this talented bassist.

In the meantime stay with this great video. He's amazing and with this other musicians...

Stay tuned,

Sid Vicious

Today bring you John Simon Ritchie a.k.a. Sid Vicious. For those who don´t know him, he was the bassist of the famous punk rock band Sex Pistols. In terms of skill and music ability Sid was pretty bad even Lenny from the band Motorhead said “he still couldn´t play bass when he died”. You may ask why have him in the band? Simple, charisma, he was without doubt charismatic and he somehow personified the punk spirit which made him extremely popular.

Sid Vicious
Sid had many demons and one of those demons was heroin. He met his end on February 2 1979 by overdose. Still some claim that he killed himself thanks to a suicide note that was found in one of his jackets.
Rest in Peace Sid Vicious 10 May 1957 – 2 February 1979

P.S. - Yes, I'm not writing this post. It's a friend of mine, that really likes music but not for the same reasons that I do. He tried to show me a good example of what is music for him - "Charisma". With all the respect, that's a very poor Pop Culture (I'm sorry True Pop Culture lovers). Eremita

Richard Bona

Hi

As promised, the posts to come will be about the bassists that play in the last album form Mike Stern. Last week  was intense in terms of music. This album just overwhelms anyone that simply likes good musics. Cameroon and Light and good examples of such ones. This musics are played by Richard Bona.
Richard Bona - Cameroon bassist
Richard Bona - African bass player
Richard Bona born in October 28, 1967, in Cameroon. He is a jazz bass player. His roots are well expressed in his music. Listening to his solo albums and collaborations we can easily listen to some African musicality. Reggae is another type of music that you can find in his marvelous bass riffs.
His first solo album is Scenes from my life and it was released in 1999. It's a relatively recent discography but is  a very good one. Regarding his collaboration CD's we can only say "This guy is good!". He is... very good. He worked and keeps working with some of the most respected jazz musicians. Victor Wooten, Mike Stern, Bobby McFerrin are some examples.

Visit his official website, and his myspace to listen to some of his work. I will let you now with a very good music from him.

Stay tuned,
Eremita
